Blood On The Claws Of
Dinosaurs’ Bones

[40 x 26]
Painted drawing on paper, graphite, pastels, mixed media.

The artist and the model become as one in a centipede of nude figurative form. The painterly finesse concedes to the drawing that dominates the work of art. It becomes a draftsman’s haven and it brags of that draftsmanship while it playfully toys with delivering the motion of the two fused figures thereby creating their surrounding atmosphere. The painting itself is not as painting would be… since it is done so in a deliberate draftsman control thereby delivering, in harmony, both the pencil and the pastel/painting as rendering.

The synergy of this work is paramount as one figure envelopes the other as its acceptable host. The placid facial expressions are complimented by the soft twists and turns of the bodies movements that are jelled in a watercolor-like painterly delivery. The claw-like hands however, stained with blood, suggest a torrid struggle to have gotten to this apparent union of contentment.

Designed as a quadrapiece, most especially for the vertical position, one can read the complete form as each figure’s knees, juxtaposed from one another, remain kneeling. The folded legs of one fiqure in turn act as the clutching arms of the other figure giving the work ambidexterity. The equally adept fusion defines the figures duality as the legs and arms of one become the appendages of the other creating a cross dominance in which the sum of the parts makes up the whole. The legs are spread to deliver the birth of its partner as we see the head of each emerge from their wombless torsos.
